The Evil Within 2 by Bethesda.
That's the closest to being back in Silent Hill that we got during the latter half of the 2010s. It may have played like RE4, 5 and all that overrated and mundane action horror pish, but at least the game was notably terrifying. And sure, while the story wasn't easy to understand, it wasn't exactly uninteresting at any point. So I'd definitely like the games to continue on about Sebastian dealing with STEM and whatnot.
I mean, Resident Evil isn't really top tier horror gaming any more, because the franchise has all this gay shit in it now like Angie the doll playing hide and seek in a house, weird merchants appearing out of nowhere and selling you stuff via currency exchanging, and the plot has been rather stupid in the recent titles, with you playing a man with a face you don't clearly see. Honestly, it's ridiculous. But ever since RE4 was released in 2005, that action heavy installment has been glorified to the moon and back.
Now I'm not gonna say you're a moron for liking RE4. It isn't a bad game in itself. Not by any means. But saying it's a genuine survival horror game, is somewhat laughable.
You get too much ammo in the game, for a start. Then once you upgrade everything, it's a doddle. In fact, it's possible to eliminate certain bosses just by purchasing a singular rocket launcher and hitting your target, dead on. No longer do you really have to worry about conserving your supplies, as you basically can see that the villagers discard flash grenades, herbs and stuff, and you can do martial arts moves whenever they get stunned.
Another problem is that the series has existed since 1996, so all of the famous faces throughout the franchise are clearly too overpowered now. Even watch the animated movies to see how confident they all are. Especially Leon Kennedy.
You'll see for yourself as to why I say the things that I do. But at least they're entertaining and also canon, which is a good thing, I suppose.
Anyway, survival horror gaming peaked around 2004. All of this action crap then came along and pretty much ruined the genre. It has seen an improvement here and there over the last few decades, but the golden age of horror gaming is certainly long gone.
